Held under FRA rules     5 MILES  1360ft ASCENT     (CATEGORY AS)

Review of the 2008 GWFR by mens' winner Rob Burnham

"This was the inaugural race of what I hope will be many more, the course is fantastic, 5 miles of true fell running, no set course and only half of it on vague paths and trails, with 4 checkpoints to visit. 1360ft of climbing all in the first 1.5 miles to visit the highest point in the South of England - Yes Tor, means that once you have done the hard work you get to enjoy 3 miles of technical downhill boggy rocky running before the final steep half mile on sheep trimmed pasture, pure heaven.

Unfortunately it was only a small turn out of around 40 runners, but with amazing prizes on offer from Ironbridge Runner & Inov-8 maybe next year it will tempt a few more.

I managed a reasonably comfortable 1st place due in no small part to Sean making me run faster on Wednesday nights, only Russell Quew gave any trouble on the climb (and a small Jack Russell from one of the spectators who decide to do the whole course with us!!) and once we were on to the downhill sections I knew that winning was going to be no problem (so long as I didn’t disappear into a bog).

1st prize a new pair of Inov-8 shoes, so not bad for £4 entry. Maybe a Cornish invasion next year?"
