Welcome to South West Road Runners, one of the largest and friendliest running clubs in Devon. We were formed in 1984 primarily as a road running club, but since moving to our present location at Exeter Arena in 1992 the club has seen a broadening of its activities to include cross country, trail, and fell running.

We currently have around three hundred members including junior runners from age eight years upwards.

We pride ourselves on being as inclusive as we can be. We have trained coaches to lead track sessions, and run leaders to suit all abilities and running requirements including guide leaders for Visually Impaired (VI) runners.

We offer a warm welcome to all, and count amongst our number a whole range of abilities, from those who want nothing more than a social jog around town, right up to county representatives and international Age Group Duathlon and Triathlon runners.

We can also arrange ad- hoc marathon and half marathon training runs as well as progression groups for novice runners, or for those looking to build up their fitness. There really is something for everyone!

The club also currently organises three annual race events, details of which which can be found elsewhere on the website. We are also the only club in Devon and Cornwall to regularly enter a team into the prestigious Welsh Castles Relay Race..

Please contact us if you need any more information, or just come along and join us if you fancy a run.

📣 Tonight on the track 📣 coached by Victoria. There are a few races taking place this weekend, so tonight’s session is short, sharp and speed focussed to allow anyone racing to take part without the risk of too much fatigue. The training stimulus is anaerobic, tapping into your top end training zones with long 2 minute recoveries to allow lactate levels to drop. Each 45 second rep should be run as fast as possible and each 2 minute recovery should be a walk. Work hard, recover harder.See you track side! Don’t forget, we also have our weekly running groups heading out tonight, so if you’re not up for the track then come and join us for a sociable run. ... See MoreSee Less

Time to shake off the Halloween season and kick start November with the MONA FARTLEK!This is a brilliantly versatile session that can be made to suit all training goals. As we are continuing our speed/endurance block our suggestion for tonight would be to run this as a continuous run with the intervals at 5k pace (or quicker as they get shorter) and a steady jog/run in between of the same time (to recover). This provides a great endurance stimulus, as well as incorporating speed. However, you could also run the session at maximum intensity and walk the recoveries to tap a little more into your anaerobic system. The short recoveries will mean you don’t have quite enough time to clear lactate, therefore, some pace discipline is required over the first two reps. Although short, the Mona Fartlek is definitely bang for buck and a great tester of 5k fitness.Don’t forget that we also have our usual running groups heading out tonight (minus sub 8 and 10.30). So, if you fancy a run with a group come and join us.£4 non members ... See MoreSee Less

📣 Happy #medalmonday 📣We kick things off with a slightly off topic report from our members who took part in the “Let’s lift the curfew” 5k event put on by the This Girl Can team. Worthy of a post as it’s a great campaign and the event brought together runners to champion safer running at night. Well done team SWRR for being a part of it 👏🏻Back to the results and a big well done to Jamie and Alicia who took part in the Radford 10k Canicross event. Both finished in 1st place with their lovely pooches 🐶🐶 👏🏻👏🏻And last but certainly not least, our fabulous Jeanette who took on her final marathon of the year - the New York City marathon and claimed her 4th star. Jeanette has been racing non stop this year and it’s been great to see her achievements! Well done 👏🏻 ... See MoreSee Less
